It is the NBSA's objective to volunteer to direct an NBSA senior basketball shooting event at every senior games in California in 2011-12, and beyond.
The California tournament director, Jim "Makevery" Schatz, is in the process of contacting all the California Senior Games directors, about NBSA’s involvement. Schatz is currently directing the two San Diego events, the Pasadena event and the Huntsman / NBSA World Senior Free Throw Championship.
The Pasadena senior basketball shooting event was one of the first senior games to offer senior basketball shooting. California senior basketball shooters look forward to shooting in Pasadena every year. The shooters that show up every year, for the most part, have been the same group of California regulars.
With a new and better defined yearly California schedule of basketball senior shooting events, and the World Championship in October, the NBSA hopes more senior basketball players and senior shooters will start participating. In 2012 the NBSA is working on holding a NBSA National Championship with regional, state and local tournament events.
This year, the Pasadena senior shooting event had a very good turn out of competitors for the age division precision shooting contest (18 feet, 5 spots, 15 shots) and free throw (25 shots) event. Two senior basketball shooting super stars emerged from the free throw event.
Those two 'super seniors' shooters are both NBSA founders - 74 year old Fred Newman (five time free throw Guinness World Record holder / Los Angeles) and 54 year old James Pauley (San Diego). Both reached the Pasadena / NBSA Senior Free Throw Open Finals by virtue of their shooting abilities, making nearly every shot, together combining for 130 out of 135 / .963% for the event.
The NBSA Senior Open Free Throw Championship took place at the conclusion of the age division shooting events.
Pauley emerged as the winner, upsetting the favorite Newman in a closely contested match. Pauley was perfect (25 - 25), first to 25 in the final, barely closing out Newman. This is Pauley’s first big win of the 2011 season.
The win earned Pauley an entry to the Huntsman World Senior Games, www.seniorgames.net , NBSA World Senior Free Throw Championship. Solar Stop Glass Tinting and National Glass sponsored the entry.
